we use interface elements to model interaction between structure and surrounding soil. we typically use R_int for strength and elasticity of interface. my question is that is there any upper bond for interface element stiffness and strength?
for example when we have layers of soil and one layer rock beside structure, we will have significant difference in signma_n of interface elements in rock layer. of course its a stiffer layer and so there will be higher interface stiffness and higher normal force.
Dear Ahmad,
Naturally, as you observed there will be higher stiffness and strength (and normal force) when the interface is in the rock layer. That is in reality, too.
If you want a different behaviour between the interface you can also use the Custom option, instead of the surrounding soil, and use a specific material to simulate the behaviour of the interface, even per layer of the soil or rock.
Yeapbut i should have some sort of criterion to judge if interface material(in fact properties) are ok or not.i don't know about that criterion.
