We are doing independent check / PE review of an deep excavation project, which majority of the excavation are in Rocks. The designer used Hardening soil model to model the Rock layers.
My questions are: 1. is it proper to use HS model to model the rock layers? 2. we used MC model to simulate the same model and find reactions are slightly more than the designer's HS model, I wonder which model is more close to reality.

Unfortunately it's impossible to answer that quesion, because the answer on both 1) and 2) is that it depends on the rock as well as the parameters used.
