Hi everyone,
I am simulating an embankment of 4m high on a soft soil layer (cohesion = 1kPa, Friction = 18) using the consolidation calculation type and soft soil model. At first, I thought that the model would notify soil body collapse. However, it did not, and then I added a safety calculation after the consolidation phase and got a safety factor (FS) of 1.009. After that, I reduced the friction of soft soil to 14 then rerun but the result was almost the same, FS ~ 1.009. It seems that Plaxis never notify the failure or soil body collapse no matter the softness of soil in consolidation calculation type. Do I understand correctly and is any method to get the failure notification from Plaxis in this case? I attached a brief description for your information.
Thank you

Hello Nam,
If a model collapses, PLAXIS gives a message like soil body collapse or prescribed time not reached in an analysis. In your case, when a shear strength parameter is reduced but the model gives the same safety factor, it could be due to the failure surface change. It is more complex if the updated mesh is used.
It is recommended to submit a service request (apps.bentley.com/.../ProductSupport) so that we can check the model in details.
