PVD, Drain

hello I want to ask about soil improvement modeling using PVD. I'm currently modeling soil improvement using PVD with a plan strain model on Plaxis 2D, does equivalence need to be done if modeling using PVD with a plan strain model?

  • Hi Randy,

In order to simulate the 3D condition in reality, i.e. radial drainage, the 2D finite element (FE) model needs to be adjusted. Such adjustment can be achieved via geometric and/or permeability matching.
In the past, various methods for modelling the PVD-improved subsoil in plane strain analysis were presented, which can generally be classified into four categories [see Shinsha et al. (1982), Sekiguchi et al. (1986), Hird et al. (1992), Asaoka et al. (1995), Chai et al. (1995, 2001), Kim et al. (2018), etc.]

I suggest that you research the available material on the subject. It will undoubtedly help you.
