Hello,
I have a question regarding the applicability of lateral resistance in piles. In many research works, I have seen it mentioned that " PLAXIS does not account for lateral resistance/slide for embedded beams". But in the software, I see I can clearly define the lateral resistance of an embedded beam. Am I making the right observation or, am I wrong, please advise.
Thank you,
Faisal
Hello Stefanos,
Thank you very much for your reply. Can you please suggest what is the best rule to calculate lateral resistance of pile by hand/graph? Also, can you please share any work that employs an embedded beam for lateral resistance and is validated with actual work?
Best regards,
Dear Faisal,
In the last years, there have been improvements to the behaviour of the embedded beam element in PLAXIS. Probably the research you check is still considering old versions in which the lateral resistance was still considered unlimited.
In the newer versions of PLAXIS there are options to define the lateral resistance as Unlimited (default and legacy behaviour), Line and Multi-linear as seen below.
