Hello,
I'm modeling a cylinder that can be filled with water (as a ballast), The cylinder is modeled using plate elements.
How the buoyancy effect is taken into account in Plaxis 3D? Should I put dry steel weight for plate elements, then the buoyancy effect will be taken into account automatically by PLAXIS 3D by adjusting the weight depending on the water level ? Or should I tweak the weight manually for the submerged plate elements to take into account the buoyancy.
What are your thoughts ?
Kind regards
Dear ABR,
In PLAXIS a plate element has no thickness, hence no volume. This implies that no buoyance effect is taken into account. If you would like to have a buoyancy effect you would have to indeed apply a reduced weight to the plates that are below the water level.
