Question

Hello, Im modelling bor pile with reinforcement on plaxis 3D. Which is embeeded beam as a longitudinal Steel reinforcement and nurbs curve with beam material as a spiral reinforcement. Here is the spiral reinforcement specification. Is it valid for analysis?

Hi Muhammad, I can think of a couple of reasons why this reinforcement technique would not work as expected. Firstly, the longitudinal reinforcements are modelled as embedded beams with a single connection point (either top or bottom). In contrast, any other intermediate point (along their length) has spring-type connections to the soil via a special interface (for more information, please refer to PLAXIS 3D &ndash; Reference Manual (Chapter 5.8.4 &ndash; Embedded Beams). Therefore, for the beam elements (spiral reinforcement) to interact with the embedded beams (longitudinal reinforcement), they must be connected at the top of the piles. In any of the intermediate points of contact, the degrees of freedom of the two elements will be independent. You could make the two reinforcements interact if you modelled both as beam elements. Secondly, the shear reinforcement of the pile must be perfectly aligned so that it is always in contact with the longitudinal reinforcement. In any other case, a small gap (or overlap) could be generated during the intersection of your geometry, resulting in a poor mesh.
