Soil Nailing - Rock Bolt or Pile

Good morning. I have seen some people model a soil nailing problem using embedded beam with pile behavior and others with rock bolt behavior. In which cases should a soil nailing problem be modeled considering a pile behavior for embedded beams?

  • Hi Edwar,

As far mentioned in PLAXIS tutorial manual, (Chapter: Dry Excavation with tie backs), PLAXIS has opted anchor grout portions as "Embedded beam with Grout body". And also, I'm practicing the same in my projects, since the connection between the node-to-node anchor and grout can be easily established automictically. In short, using Pile behavior, may allow us to choose the fixity, rotations of the connection. However, it is your wish to customize the connections. Please add your thoughts for healthy knowledge sharing.

    Thanks, & regards.
