Hi all! I am wandering that PLAXIS 2d is able to do the plate loading test for shallow foundation or not? Lack some literatures for this. I want to know how to do the loading test by adding some loads to the foundation and how to find the ultimate bearing capacity. Thankfully!
Hello Yuhong,
You may run an axisymmetric model in PLAXIS 2D, applying a high input load to get the model to collapse. As the model collapses, it gives an SMstage (<1). Now, the ultimate bearing capacity = SMstage * input load
You may refer to our tutorial below to model an axisymmetric model and get output value (q_active, bearing capacity). You also can apply prescribed displacement for the load.

How to get a load - displacement curve using SumMstage
Hi,
Many thanks for your reply!
One more question for this modelling of the plate load test. If it is also possible to model this in a plane model, the only difference between the axisymmetric model is the loading area?
