Hi Everyone, I am trying to use the Sigma/W software to model stress and settlement distribution for an embankment over soft soils with geogrid reinforcement. Currently I am modeling the geogrid with a beam element, similar to geostudio's approach to geosynthetics. I also have made an interaction material that I have applied around the geogrid as a line, the interaction material uses Mohr-Columb model with the E-modulus and tensile strength of the geogrid. After running the model there seems to be little to no effect of the geogrid, does the outstanding group have a better approach using Sigma/W? Is the structural beam properly integrated into the model? Open to any suggestions. Thanks!
Without the model it is difficult to say what could be the possible reasons for this behavior. Usually in these cases, the first approach is always to check whether the geogrid lies in the active stress zone such as a zone of tensile stresses in the geogrid's axial direction. If the geogrid is not lying in this zone then it the soil around it will not experience any stress changes from the geogrid because the geogrid will not resist any tensile or compressive stress in its axial direction.
