Hi - I have noticed that in plx additional options have been introduced when importing dxf into plx. Unfortunately the adapted procedure works incorrectly, resulting in a situation where incomplete geometry is imported into plaxis. I can provide a dxf to make it more reliable
Thank you for your kind comment. However, I believe that the problem is not yet solved. Nor does everyone have the ability to use 3D to solve this problem. The DXF import error into plaxis should be corrected very soon in the next update. Please take users seriously and exclude situations where an error 100 times smaller than a human hair prevents the complete data from being loaded.
Dear Grzegorz,
I do not expect you to use PLAXIS 3D to fix the inaccuracy on your DXF file, but I am happy you could use it as a workaround.
I expect that the DXF from CAD drawers is accurate enough for finite element analyses. Unfortunately, the accuracy in CAD software may not matter this much, but these can have an impact in a finite element calculation.
I am unsure what you refer to as an error, as the log information clearly states that some parts of your geometry do not lie on the XY plane. Therefore, the DXF is recognized as a 3D drawing and cannot be properly imported on a 2D plane.
We can make an assumption and project these points somehow, but this could lead to further inaccuracies in your imported geometry. Since we do not know your intentions when we import any geometry, there is this much we can do to predict.
Therefore, we are working hard to improve the logging mechanism to properly inform you of any warnings that need your attention, which in this case were used to spot the problem.
We do take all users seriously, which is also why we have opened our GeoStudio | PLAXIS Ideas portal for anyone to add their idea for future improvement.
I hope this explains the behaviour of PLAXIS, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can improve our software!
Thank you for taking the time to post on our Forum about this.
