We assume that the plate used to model the tunnel lining has a rectangular cross-section. Therefore, the section area will be equal to:
A = b x d = (1m) x d, where b is the dimension of the model in the out-of-plane direction and d is the thickness of the lining.
Conversely, the moment of inertia is equal to:
I = (1/12) x b x d^3 = (1/12) x (1m) x d^3
