&lt;p&gt;In 3D one needs a soil volume, not a soil polygon. Volumes cannot be drawn directly in PLAXIS 3D because it would be quite difficult to draw a 3D volume in a 2D drawing plane. Therefore volumes are made through for instance extrusion of polygons and/or intersection with other planes. The final volume can then be assigned a material to.&lt;br /&gt;Hence, they&amp;#39;re not explicitly called Soil volumes, just volumes.&lt;/p&gt;
