Soil parameter optimization based off one lab test data

Hello All,

I am trying to use the soil parameter optimization based off the soil testing module in PLAXIS. I see for doing this, first I need a "Reference curve" (in the example, it shows as 100 kPa). I believe that is a real time lab data and not from PLAXIS. Next, I choose a confining stress ( in the example it was 200 kPa) with which I will be working on. Then, I use the actual lab data for 200 kPA as my "Optimization Target". Then , PLAXIS would optimize the results based off the two curves and generate "Optimization results." My question was , what if I have only one curve to optimize. For example, if I have only the curve for 200 kPa then what should be my approach.

Please help

  • Hi Faisal,

Your description needed to clarify which test you are running in SoilTest (i.e., Triaxial, Oedometer, DSS, etc.) and which example you are referring to. From your description, I assume that you have run a triaxial lab test at a confining pressure of 200kPa.

In that case, in SoilTest, you can set the "initial effective cell pressure" to 200kN/m2 in the Triaxial tab. After you run your analysis, you can visit the "parameter optimisation" module to optimise model parameters such that a best fit is obtained between the model results and the results of the real soil lab tests you have at your disposal. In that case, the "reference curve" corresponds to the lab test curve.
