When designing soil nail wall, how can we differentiate the internal and external stability failure surfaces in plaxis 2D LE?

The internal or external stability analysis is determined using the slip surface search methods. Users can specify an entry and exit slip surface range that will automatically search for the critical slip surface. Whether the critical slip surface is an internal or external slip surface, it will be determined based on the chosen slip surface search method. There are a number of search methods available in PLAXIS LE for Circular and Composite Circular slip surfaces such as Grid and Tangent Method, Entry and Exit Method, Fully Specified Method, Grid and Point Method, Grid and Line Method, Slope Search Method, Auto Refine Method and the Cuckoo Search Method. If the slip surface shape is selected as being Non-Circular then the valid search methods, include Block Search, Fully Specified, Greco Method, Path Search, Dynamic Programming and Cuckoo Search Method. Yes, in an auto refine search method, the program will automatically determine the most critical slip surface and that may or may not be an internal slip surface as its FS may be higher. Users can find the details of all the critical and trial slip surfaces in output by going to Slips>Slip surfaces.
