Dear sir/madam,
I am studying on dynamic analysis on Plaxis 2D for my master thesis. I have two questions:
1) I'm using free field boundaries on the lateral boundaries and compliant base boundary at the bottom of the model. Is it normal to have water loads on the lateral boundaries as you can see on the figure i have uploaded?
2) Does it matter to have closed or open boundaries for drainage in dynamic analysis step?
Thank you, best regards.
Dear Nuri,
1) Yes, this is normal. These are the water pressures that are in the free field (the soil next to your model). Free field boundaries are not fixed supports, they make sure that the correct free field soil stresses are applied on the boundary and that includes water pressures.
2) Whether the boundary is open or closed only makes a difference for groundwater flow and consolidation. So if you do a Dynamics with Consolidation analysis it makes a difference, but if you do just a Dynamics analysis it doesn't.
With kind regards,
Dennis Waterman
