I want to apply rainfall which is based on actual daily precipitation data for 30 days.
So I'm trying to make a precipitation table with discharge function.
The unit of precipitation in the data I have is "mm/day" but "m3/day" in the discharge function.
Could you please advise what do I have to do?
Hi there,
To convert precipitation data in units of "mm/day" to discharge data in units of "m3/day", you will need to know the drainage area of the catchment (basin). You can then use the following formula:
Discharge (m3/day) = Precipitation (mm/day) * Drainage Area (km2) / 1000
For example, if the precipitation is 10 mm/day and the basin area is 100km2, then the discharge would be:
Discharge = 10 mm/day * 100 km2 / 1000 = 1 m3/day
Dear 치훈 송,
Just to add to what my colleague Vasileos refers: In PLAXIS the discharge function works per m2 (1 m out-of-plane and 1 m length of "horizontal" boundary). Precipitation works for horizontal distances. If you have a slope, inflow in m/d reduces (to zero for vertical slope).
Kind regards,
Felipe
