I'm new to PLAXIS 3D and am modeling a tunnel opening in an SOE wall. I tried to do this via the Tunnel Designer, but apparently my company doesn't have the Geotechnical SELECT Entitlement. Is there a way to this without this entitlement?
Thanks in advance.
Dear Hieronymus,
It is very difficult, but possible and depends on tunnel complexity and PLAXIS 3D version you are using.
Let's say that it is PLAXIS 3D 2018.01 version and you need to model simple tunnel.
For this case you have Create polycurve option:
We should choose the first point coordinate. After that the window Shape designer pops out. This window helps you to create the tunnel cross section. More information you can find in Reference and Tutorial manuals.
Let it be a circular with radius 1 m in XZ-plane:
As a result:
Then we can extrude it along the Y-axis:
After that we can create Plate and Interface elements, intersect it with another surfaces and so on.
As I said it is quite difficult to create complex tunnel without SELECT (VIP), but standard options and command line (please, see also Command reference in Help menu) allow to do it.
Hope it helps.
Thanks! I'll give it a try.
A related question - since attempting to use the Tunnel Designer, I can no longer open the file. I get a prompt saying:
"The project contains one or more tunnels, for which the Geotechnical SELECT Entitlement is required."
But, I never was able to make the tunnel for lack the entitlement... Is there any way I can get access to the file?
You are welcome.
You can go to the project folder *.p3dat, find the file data.success.p3dlog, open it with Notepad and check if there are any commands called tunnel. If Yes, you have tunnel(s) in your project. I am afraid it is the only way to know about tunnels in the project. If you want, you can send me the p3dlog file, so I can check it. My email can be found in my profile.
Unfortunately, I do not know, how to open such file without GSE. Anyway it is very strange. So I suggest you to submit a service request and send your project to PLAXIS technical support:https://apps.bentley.com/srmanager/ProductSupport
Thanks, that helped. We were able to restore the project file and data folder to a previous backup which did not have references to a tunnel being created.
Great! You are welcome.
