Thermal effects may be crucial for different geotechnical applications – for instance frozen soils, geothermal or underground energy extraction, and storages. In this Geotechnical Analysis Special Interest Group virtual workshop, you will get familiar with the main concepts of thermal processes and see how to model them by user-friendly features with PLAXIS 2D.

The content for this one-hour session will be illustrated by a case example of artificial ground freezing for tunnel excavation. You will learn how to:

   • Specify thermal parameters and boundary conditions
   • Set up and run a ground-freezing analysis
   • Inspect and analyze results of a thermal calculation

The Geotechnical Analysis SIG meets each month and is open to all Bentley users. One learning unit will be applied to each attendee’s Bentley Transcript for self-reporting. To view recordings from previous SIGs, visit the SIG Learning Path or check out On-Demand Videos.
