This video explains how to use the PLAXIS Coupling tool to set up coupled soil-structure interaction analysis between PLAXIS 3D 2016.02 and SAP2000 V18.
Update for PLAXIS 3D CONNECT Edition V20
With the release of PLAXIS 3D CONNECT Edition V20 we created a structural coupling with STAAD.Pro.
The Coupling tool is now included in the installation of PLAXIS 3D, and available as a tool via the Expert menu using the menu item PLAXIS Coupling tool ...
It is available as a Technology Preview feature in PLAXIS 3D CONNECT Edition V20.
Installation and launch instructions for PLAXIS 3D 2016/2017/2018:
- Extract the Coupling Tool files to \pytools\shared\ in the PLAXIS installation directory:
- Start PLAXIS 3D 2016.02 with your model, activate the remote scripting server
- Ensure SAP2000 is active with the structural model
- From the Expert Menu in PLAXIS 3D 2016.02 select the Python submenu, then Run script -> Tools -> coupling_tool_runner
- The Coupling Tool launches and automatically connects to PLAXIS 3D and SAP2000
- After running the Coupling tool the first time, you can find the tool in the Run script submenu as well
