Problem description

In PLAXIS 2D 2018.00, the former Shotcrete user defined soil model is now implemented as a standard (VIP) available “Soil” model: the Concrete model.

Unfortunately, in this implementation, the Concrete model swaps two cartesian stresses when starting each calculation step: the vertical stress (σ’yy) and the horizontal out-of-plane stress σ’zz. This leads to wrong results.

Note: this is a PLAXIS 2D 2018.00 problem only. In PLAXIS 3D the stresses are read correctly.

Solution

This is now solved for PLAXIS 2D 2018.01.

In PLAXIS 2D 2018.00, please do not use the Concrete model. Please update to the latest version. Alternatively, using the Shotcrete user-defined soil model version will give the correct behaviour.

Please contact our sales team if you want to obtain this user-defined soil model if you cannot update to PLAXIS 2D 2018.01
