Date modified | 26 June 2020 |
When using PLAXIS 3D CONNECT Edition V20 Update 2 or earlier, in cases that special Unicode characters are used in names of objects in PLAXIS Input, the meshing procedure might fail to generate a valid finite element mesh.
Typically, the PLAXIS objects involved are points, lines, surfaces and volumes.
The special Unicode characters affecting the meshing procedure can be any character mentioned in the following page as supplementary or extension to the Basic Latin block: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Unicode_characters
When the error occurs, a bug report is generated and includes an exception with the unsupported name of the object as the following:
exception class : Exception
exception message : Interface definition INT_NEGATIVEINTERFACEFOR_POLYGON_ BâTIMENT_1_2 cannot find user volume UV_BOREHOLEVOLUME_1_ BâTIMENT_1 (derived from MV_BOREHOLEVOLUME_1_BâTIMENT_1) [INT_NEGATIVEINTERFACEFOR_POLYGON_ BâTIMENT_1_2]
This is now fixed since PLAXIS 3D CONNECT Edition V20 Update 3 (V20.03)
When using older versions, you are advised to avoid naming any objects using the special Unicode characters.
In any relevant project, when the error occurs, it is possible to switch to Soil/Structures mode and rename the relevant objects using the Basic Latin characters.
The renaming of the objects will ensure that the meshing procedure will not fail due to this issue.
