Issue #SW-47784
Date created31 March 2020
Date modified30 September 2020

Problem description

Any object created in PLAXIS Input is given a default name, e.g. Line_1, Soil_1, Plate_1, Pointload_1. It is possible to rename these objects. The name as defined in Input will be sent to PLAXIS Output as it is. This is a convenient mechanism to ease the recognition of the objects used in PLAXIS Input and PLAXIS Output and works both for object names, and their group names.

In translated (i.e. non-English) versions of PLAXIS, the group names of PLAXIS objects (Lines, Soils, Plates, PointLoads) are also translated in PLAXIS Input. Moreover, these model group names are sent with their translated name to PLAXIS Output and will only be accessible by using their translated name in PLAXIS Output.
This issue here relates to the use of the PLAXIS Automation framework: the PLAXIS API for remote scripting in PLAXIS 2D/3D CONNECT Edition Update 3 or earlier.

When trying to access all plates via the plates model group by using a Python script, you need to access the Plates model group (in Python: g_o.Plates).
Unfortunately, when using a non-English version of PLAXIS, this Plates model group is not accessible when using the English name, but only available when using the translated model group name. In such a situation, your Python script that tries to access the mentioned model groups will not work when running PLAXIS in a different language.

This problem occurs for instance when using the 1D Site Response Analysis tool in a non-English PLAXIS version. When the tool attempts to retrieve data from the Output program, it attempts to access the objects by using the English model group name.
Since the objects are not found by their English name, the tool will stop working.

Solution

This is now solved in PLAXIS 2D and PLAXIS 3D CONNECT Edition Update 4.

When using an older version, please update to the latest version. If that is not possible, users are advised to switch to the English version to take advantage of running automated tools that make use of the PLAXIS Output program and are accessing model groups, including the 1D Site Response Analysis tool in PLAXIS 2D.

You can find the instructions to reset your language here.
