All dongle/hardware lock (HWL) based versions of PLAXIS 2D/3D are treated as "V8i SELECTseries 10" according to Bentley's Support Policy. This means that Bentley will discontinue support for hardware lock based versions of PLAXIS after December 31, 2021. This includes PLAXIS 2D 2019 and older, and PLAXIS 3D 2018 and older.

Information on the supported CodeMeter drivers for PLAXIS legacy versions
Our PLAXIS legacy versions* work with a CodeMeter dongle (hardware lock / HWL) which requires to have installed specific drivers for PLAXIS to read the licenses from.
The supported CodeMeter driver version is 6.60b, as this was the latest update available when we released the latest PLAXIS Legacy versions*.
Newer versions of the CodeMeter drivers, for example, version 7, are not compatible with the PLAXIS legacy software applications, and will show you an error:
As all new PLAXIS developments have moved to the PLAXIS CONNECT Edition and its licensing system using the Bentley CONNECTION Client, newer versions of PLAXIS 2D and PLAXIS 3D will not be compatible with hardware lock licensing using the CodeMeter hardware dongle.
If you encounter the above-mentioned problem, please downgrade the CodeMeter drivers to version 6.60b if you need to continue working with our PLAXIS legacy versions*. The drivers can be requested by reaching out to the support team as described in the article How to receive Technical Support.
Please be aware that when running a network version for the CodeMeter PLAXIS licenses, both the server computer and the client computer need to have the same driver version installed to avoid any compatibility issues.
Note that with our latest versions of PLAXIS CONNECT Edition you no longer need a dongle or any other physical key for your license as with the Bentley Licensing tool all your licenses and entitlements are handled online.
