This tutorial illustrates the use of PLAXIS 2D for simulating the excavation of a road cut in a siltstone rock mass with the presence of a fault (discontinuity). The rock mass is characterized using the Hoek-Brown model.
To stabilise this road cut PLAXIS cable elements are used. Stability is determined based on the factor of safety (strength reduction method).
• Use the Gravity loading method to generate the initial stresses.• Model the fault using the Discontinuity feature.• Model the reinforcement with the Cables feature.• Determine the influence of reinforcements on the factor of safety.
The attached *.p2dxlog file contains all the commands to generate the model. With a Bentley Geotechnical SELECT Entitlement [GSE] license, you can use the commands runner to open the *.p2dxlog file and to execute all commands in one go, see also this instruction.
