How do I plot nested wells on a fence without plotting on top of each other?

I'd like to plot nested wells on a fence, but due to the horizontal scale of the fence they plot on top of each other.  Is there an override command to have borings within a minimum distance X plot adjacent to each other?

  • One option is to control the horizontal scale of the Fence report at Output by either specifying minimum and maximum values for the Distance Axis properties. Or, you can specify a value for the Distance Axis Scale property.

Another option is to mark the "Equally space points along distance axis" property. This will arrange the fence posts equally spaced within the report frame. This alone still does not guarantee that they will not overlap, but it might be enough. If this still does not keep them from overprinting, you can then specify a value in the Point Spacing property. This value is in report units, either inches or millimeters (it is dependent on the report units for the specific report). Note that the Point Spacing property will grayed out if you have not first marked the "Equally space points along distance axis" property, as they work in concert with each other.

You did not indicate if you are specifying a baseline or if you are having gINT create a best-fit-line baseline through your selected boreholes. If gINT creates a best-fit- line it will then "project" each borehole to the baseline and the horizontal spacing between each adjacent borehole on the fence will be the apparent distance between those two boreholes. If you specify a baseline and also click on each borehole in the Site Layout at Output then the horizontal distance between each borehole on the baseline will be the true distance between each borehole.

    Hopefully, that makes sense.

  • Hi,

Came across this thread as part of my search for an answer to a similar fence exporting issue (to dxf). Hoping to confirm whether there is a solution or if the above is the extent of my options.

I am trying to avoid overlap of borehole logs that are neighboring but they need to 1) be (mostly) consistent to their position along the baseline and 2) baseline remains at the required and specified length. So ideally when logs overlap they are automatically nudged to avoid one another but placed within their relative location. Is something like that possible?

Appreciate any thoughts on how to automate this.

  • See my discussion in the post here.  I am assuming that the wells that are ovelapping are entered as separate wells (each has it's own point ID) but with the same or nearly the same location.

It describes a technique to offset discrete boreholes so they do not overlap on a profile based on their position.  You will need to modify it for your situation.
