Getting error "Unable to open 'table'. Unrecognized database format" for a gpj file. Also shows "Automation error".

Question

Trying to open a gINT project but unable to do so. I have Windows 10 and gINT version v8i 08.30.04.285. I am able to open all other projects and have tried repairing the file and importing it but with no success.

Ok, firstly have you tried restoring the project file (to a different location) from your daily backups. If your last backup file is not corrupted, at least you'll only have lost a days worth of work. Failing that, have you tried opening the corrupted file in Microsoft Access (just rename from #####.gpj to #####.mdb and open it in Access) If you can do this, you can at least copy the data from Access and paste it into a new gINT project, or possibly import it into a new gINT project. All of this might be a bit fiddly, but if you've entered a lot of data already, then it's better than having to start again from scratch.

Looks like the project file is corrupted. You can try opening the project using the backup file. When a gpj is opened in Input or Data Design (if not opened read-only) a backup is created in the same folder. Each new backup is numbered as 1. gINT keeps only 2 backups, always deleting bak2 and renaming bak1 as bak2. You will have to rename the .bak1 file to .gpj. 
 
Also in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Bentley\gINT	emp there is a file with X in front of the project name with extension .gbk. This could be the recent project file as well. Just change the extension to .gpj. 
 
These might give you the project close to the recent if not most recent.

After doing all the options to retrieve the project nothing seems to be working. Looks like the project has gone corrupt.

Just had a thought that I tried out... If you don't have access to Access, you can download Libre Office for free ( www.libreoffice.org/.../libreoffice-still ;lang=en-GB&version=5.0.5 ) and if you rename a copy of your corrupted file to ###.mdb you can fire up Libre Office, go to Create: Base Database, select "Connect to an existing database", select Microsoft Access, hit Next and point it at your renamed file and it will open the project with data. Obviously, this will only work if the original project file isn't completely trashed. If the project doesn't contain any confidential sensitive data you can always send it to me and I'll poke it with a pointy stick to see if I can get anywhere with it (miles at gintdev.co.uk)
