What is the difference between the functionality found in gINT Professional Plus (CONNECT) versus the Geotechnical tools found in OpenRoads Designer (CONNECT)?
As far as I can tell, the tools are identical.
Is it necessary to install gINT Professional Plus if I already have OpenRoads Designer installed?
Hi,
There are 3 different products .
1. gINT professional Plus (CONNECT) edition - This is the standard gINT Geotechnical and Geo-environmental database and reporting software
2. The sister product to gINT ....
gINT Civil Tools CONNECT Edition is a
power product (standalone application based on the MicroStation platform) which are delivered with gINT
Professional and gINT Professional Plus. They allow gINT users to load gINT data in 2d models (mapping
workflow for drilling plan creation and preliminary studies) as well as in 3d for subsurface interpretation and
BIM workflows.
3. The Geotechnical ribbon in ORD
The geotechnical ribbon in ORD includes all functionality of the gINT Civil Tools product. so either one (item 2 or iitem 3) will accomplish the same thing.
Item 1 is a completely different product.
Kirk,
Thank you for the quick response and for the clarification.
We have gINT Civil tools Professional Plus installed in addition to OpenRoads Designer.
At this point I am assuming that we have redundant installations of tools that are found in OpenRoads Designer.
I am just trying to consolidate our tools and provide some cross-training using a common platform.
Thanks,
Mwasi.
Good Afternoon!,
I just found this thread.. thanks for your reply!
To add to the original question..
How does the Civil Tools either stand alone or ORD compare to the GeoTechnical tools under the Utilities Menu in GeoPak?
Thanks for your time.
Curtis
Hi Curtis,
There really isn't a good way to compare the two. The Geotechnical tool in Geopak was not designed as an interface with gINT. It was developed long before gINT was part of Bentley. gINT does have an old feature to export data to a format that can be read by the Geopak Tool, but it was a small subset of the gINT database and didn't connect directly to the gINT database.GCT can connect directly to the gINT .gpj file or SQL DB and utilize all of the data.
Here is a link to the GCT page that describes all of the functionality (short videos describing various features).

Thank you very much for this reply, very helpful!
So with the OpenRoads Designer Geotechnical Tools we'll still be able to post borings to roadway cross sections & roadway profiles? And still be able to calculate information, for example.... Station and Offsets, elevations from TIN / DTM files ???
This one is a hope... convert Lat Long to NE ???
Thanks again for your time!
