I'm working on producing both a borehole log and fence diagram for a couple new monitoring wells. For the borehole log, I have created several well schematic call-outs to be included in the borehole log (i.e., pipe in sand, pipe in bentonite, etc.). When creating a fence diagram, I would like to show only the screened interval for the well. Currently, the fence diagram's text expression for the well schematic includes the entire well schematic, and not just the well screen interval. How can I create/write a text expression for the fence diagram to ONLY point to the screened interval?
Thanks
Hi Michael,
There are a couple of ways I have worked with users to show the screened interval on a fence. Some of it is how your current information is recorded in the database and some of it is personal preference. I don't know if you are working with highly customized files from your company or one of the standard file sets we ship. I will answer based on the standard file sets we ship (ie gINT std US Lab) and then you could modify the concept from there.
The gINT std us lab has data entry set up to build the well in the Well Construction table. Assuming you use a consistent well symbol to represent your Screen then you can place a graphic column on the fence with an output condition to only show that symbol. Below are screen shots. There are many other ways you can do this. If this isn't what you want contact me and we can look at the details of you files and a way to show the screen.
Yes adding 2 new fields is another method I have worked with users. It has some advantages over the other method I mentioned and some disadvantages. It is really personal preference. There are also other ways you could think of to do this. Bottom line is to do what works best for you.
The advantage of using the output condition is that you can use your existing data entry and not have to enter the data a second time.
The advantage to adding fields is you can just use a solid fill graphic or the line portion and that sometimes looks a little cleaner on a fence report where you have many boreholes / wells.
I wrote it so it looks for symbols that begin with "slot" so in case I have others IE SLOT 2 Slot 3 etc...
the like SLOT* means "begins with"
