Create .gas (dictionary) file from .gpj or .gdt

Is there a quick way to create a dictionary file from either a gINT Project or a gINT Template?

There are some provided for the AGS 3.1 and 4.0 UK transfer standards but I can't find anything in the documentation that explains a quick way to create one from your own database structure.

  • Paul,

There is no provision to create the dictionary from gINT project or data template unless you add each word to it:

Three types of dictionaries are provided for use by the Spell checker in gINT.

    1. The standard dictionary is in a non-editable file format. We can't edit it either, it is encrypted by the company that publishes the spell check code. It contains a large number of words and is structured for fast retrieval. AMERICAN.GDC is a standard US dictionary that was supplied by the software publisher of the spell check utility.

     2. An optional dictionary named BLANK.GDC.

     3. Personal dictionaries are in a pure text file format. You can add to them either through the Add To Custom button in the unknown word dialog or through any pure text editor such as Wordpad or Notepad (both come with Windows). Words that were incorrectly added to a personal dictionary can be removed with such an editor as well. Note that you can use a word processing program such as Word or WordPerfect to edit these files, but remember to save as a text file. PERSONAL.DIC comes with the program. You can add your own through the Spell Options dialog above.

  • I'm not sure if you've misunderstood.  When checking AGS files using the AGS Checker you can select a custom dictionary (.gas) file.  This file contains the "gINT Schema for AGS" so it lists out all of the Groups, their headings, the units and the data types.

This file is then used to cross check the structure of the database model and the checker will then highlight the differences where unit types may be different.

There appears to be no .gas file for AGS 4.0.4 - this is where I saw differences in the units between an AGS file I'd been provided (in AGS 4.0.4) which was checking against the AGS 4.0.3 .gas file.

What I am wondering if it is possible to create a similar file from my existing database structure so that if we specify certain things to a contractor, we can check the AGS file against our own structure, as well as the standard AGS structure.

  • Paul, please send me a private email so that we can discuss this further.  aparna.matange@bentley.com

  • Hi Paul

The Datgel Administrator Tools, AGS Tool function can read an AGS excel data dictionary and generate a gas file of it.  The excel data dictionary has a sheet for groups and a sheet for headings, it is structured in the way the AGS Format committee does it.

The GAS file was Datgel's idea to help a gov authority to better validate the AGS 3.1 files they received.

    regards
