Edit latitude or longitude maximum/minimum.

I'm looking to change the maximum and minimums of the lat/long in my data template.  Since we drill holes in a limited area, I'm looking to tie things down to that area, particularly, to prevent a negative latitude or a positive longitude.  I'm struggling to edit them.  It's stuck.  This is what is shown.  The problem is that I can't do anything with the Min/Max values.  I can edit the display format choice and the decimal number, but not the other 2.  I've tried editing within a project itself and then also in the base gdt.  No go.  Suggestions?

  • Hi Jeff,

I can't see from the screen shot but I assume this is a Longitude Field Type. This Field type is fixed with regards to changes to field Rules. This is the description from the Help file in gINT. You would need to use another field type to record Lat Long. There is another How to guide in help with some other alternatives or you could use integer

  • I guess I'm not very lucky.  What search terms do I use to find that "How to" guide on this?  Whatever I try brings me back to the simple lat/long rules, which can't be changed.

  • I may have a work around for you.

I created a simple Graphic Table Report which is use to check to make sure the Point Depth, Last sample depth, and last strata bottom depth in the Lithology Table all match up. The idea is that if my 20 ft borehole has a layer from 17 to 20 ft, but the last sample stopped at 19.2 feet due to refusal, then I'm going to be able to easily identify which boring has something wrong with it. Follow me?

You could set up something similar using a Graphic Table Report. Three columns: Borehole ID, Latitude, and Longitude. The data expression is easy (PointID.Lat and PointID.Long), but you need to specify an override color and formatting (bold is great) with your desired Maximums and Minimums. This way if the latitude/longitude entered doesn't meet your window, it will print in Bold Color. What's even better is that you don't even need to create anything fancy for this report (like a header/footer, column lines, etc) because you don't even need to print it. You just hit the preview button on the output tab, check for any Bold Color text, and fix those borings.

  • One option would be to use a gINT Rule to check latitude and longitude were within limits before the data was saved.

The gINT Rule could be set up more comprehensively by adding min/max fields to the Project table which would allow project specific limits on locations.

  • Hi Jeff,

The How to guide is under the How to booklet in the Help contents tab under general booklet.

This is a completely different way of doing lat log.

The suggestions of the other users are great. You would not have to change field types.
