P Log into gINT.

210218_D10353A01.csv

Hi there,

I've received some .CSV files from our field personnel that were generated using the Plog tablet. First problem I encountered is that the files are in .CSV. I changed them into .XLSX in order to import them into gINT, which was ok. After importing them, most of the data didn't come through, I'm guessing is due to the fact that the template I normally use in gINT is different from the one used to log the logs in the tablet (As when I opened the .CSV file, I could see the formatting and the fields were different).

Is there a way to know which template should I use? or maybe Import the library that the tablet is using to then bring all the information without losing anything into gINT? or does the field logger needs to export the files in a certain format so I can use them here correctly?

I could type it in manually, but it would defeat the purpose of the tablet, wouldn't it?

I'm attaching one of the .CSV files and my library.

Cheers,

Alex Mijares

  • pLog .csv files are formatted to make it really easy to import into gINT, but it usually requires a correspondence file to perform the direct import. all of the headers labeled with a ** indicate the table name, such as **Project or **Point. The line directly below the ** table name are the field names that go along with that table. You can write the correspondence file directly within gINT to map from the .csv file to your gINT .gdt/.gpj file so that the data goes where you want it. There is a Help article on correspondence files available in the Help menu in gINT. Hope this helps!

  • Hi Alex,

Plog is a product from a third party developer. They usually provide a correspondence file to import data into your custom gINT file set. As long as you have used the correct datatemplate (.gdt) to clone from to create the project and the library file (.glb) that was designed to work with that structure then all you would need to do is use the correspondence file that PLOG provided (.gci) during the import. Before designing one on your own I would check to make sure you don't already have that file and that you are referencing it during the import. It was most likely was designed to work with the csv file . (Import from text).

Here is how to reference the correspondence file during the import

If you don't have it or if you have used a different structure to create your project file,  then you would have to create a correspondence file on your own as Judy is suggesting below. Here is a wiki article that describes how to create a correspondence file as well as the info from the Help file in gINT

Applies To Product(s): gINT Logs, gINT Professional, gINT Professional Plus Version(s): N/A Environment: N/A Area: Import Data, Export Data…

  • Thanks for your help Judy and Kirk.

I'll give it a go now to see if it works.

    Cheers!
