Monitoring Well Log

Hello! As I work on learning gINT I came up with a question - are there any libraries floating around that display only well logs and information associated with each section? I have previously made this type of log in Excel but now have over 200 wells that I need to digitize. I am aware that the standard log that comes with gINT does a good job of showing wells, but I have too much information for these 200+ wells that needs to be shown so I took out the well column to fit in that additional information. I've searched through the files but didn't come up with anything. Example of what I'm looking for below:

Any ideas that you have would be super helpful!

  • Hi William.

We have a general purpose log report examples with modified dataset available for downloads.  In here are a few well log reports that may be of interest to you.  If you choose any of these, you can either use that library itself or merge it with your existing library file.  These well reports are not a perfect match to the report design that you have posted.  But you can modify them to your needs.

Log reports - usually boring logs - can be designed to present environmental, geotechnical, or a mixture of other kinds of data. See Using gINT Downloaded Examples for instructions. ENVIRONMENTAL LOGS…

  • Hi William,

If you have gINT professional , you might want to look at graphic text docs to design these types of diagrams. They are not part a a typical log report , but just a diagram of a well with detailed graphics.

Most of the free ones we have are under our Agency reports page (IE Wisconsin, texas Illinois, others)

Here are a couple of those for example

These templates have been designed to support the production of reports for the indicated agencies. While we have worked to ensure these templates are current and produce correct results, we make no warranty…

  • I would strongly urge you to set up the well information as a data table with depth as the key field rather than as individual "fill in the box" fields to drive a specific form similar to what your excel sheet did.  This makes the data useful to plot the wells at different scales on cross sections along with the associated stratigraphy. You can use the depth related data to create a well completion form similar to what you show that has all the details listed.  To demonstrate, I have taken the data in your form above and entered it in a simple well table.  The log below was generated using that data.

As you can see it contains all the data on your form but is plotted to scale adjacent to the strata record from the drill log. The detail view  (not to scale) allows you to include a large amount of detailed descriptive information pertaining to the well construction. the log is driven by the following data table.

This gives you the ability to accommodate numerous different well construction types and configurations all with in the same data structure and form.

I have posted detailed descriptions on how to create the well detail log shown above with compressed layers in this forum long long ago.  A link to that post is provided below:

Hope this gives you some ideas.

  • I looked through the General Purpose Log Reports and found that I really like the look of the well log for log_a_ewnl02. I downloaded it but it seems to be missing all graphics and it even seems to be missing the ability to create graphics. I have gone into the Symbol Design portion and created entities for all of the backfill types that I want to use. When I select Fill Type and choose Hatch or Tile there are no symbol options that come up. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I have tried re-dowloading the file a few times now.

  • I love the look of this. I'm afraid that I don't have the experience necessary to create this kind of log in Report Design. I'm not sure that I'm even using the correct language when I ask for a "library." You say that you entered the data from my well log into a simple well table. I understand setting up tables more than I do creating reports. Do you have any advice or resources on how I can build the report you have shown above? When I read through the link that you provided I found the detail on scaling and creating breaks useful, but I'm not sure how to get to that point with the resources that I have.
