gINT Lab Testing - Compaction

Is it possible to plot 2 curves on the same graph?  We need to show a calculated compaction curve and a corrected value curve on the same Moisture-Density Relationship report graph.

Thank you,

Marianne

  • Hi Marianne

It is possible to plot two curves on one frame.

How are you storing the data?  A screen shot of INPUT will help.

    regards

  • Good morning Phil,

Thank you for responding.  We need to show the corrected data and the uncorrected data.  Both are the same sample, but I’ve changed the depth since gint doesn’t allow things entered at the exact same depth.  My current work around is to print both to Adobe and alter the pdf. Definitely not the best way to go about this I’m sure.

Please let me know what other information you need from me.

Here is a screen shot of the compaction data:

    Thank you!

  • Hi Marianne,

Search this forum for "MultigraphDataSet.zip", in the Zip file you will find a library file and a project file that were setup several years ago to illustrate the ability to "overlay" one Graph report onto another Graph report. They do NOT need to be data from the same table. The example shows Triaxial Shear Test data, but you can setup your report to show the calculated and the corrected compaction data.

Basically, you need to setup one Graph report that shows all the information that you want presented for one of the compaction curves. This includes the report border, title, etc. You then need to leave an area on the page where you want to display the "other" compaction curve. Then, create a second Graph report with just the contents of the "other" compaction curve.

In the example "Multigraph data set" the Graph report with everything except the "other" Graph report has been called "Triaxial Main". The "other" Graph report as been called "Triaxial Overlaid". Once you have created both Graph reports bring up the Report Properties dialog for the "main" Graph report and on the General tab you will find the "Overlaid Reports" property, click on the [...] Browse button and select your "other" Graph report.

When you print the "main" Graph report the "overlaid" Graph report will be incorporated into the report and you will have your two Graph reports together.

Unfortunately, it appears that this capability has not yet made it into the gINT Help file. The method included in the Help file discusses doing this manually and merging two GDW files.

    Hope this helps.

  • I'm trying to do almost the same thing as Marianne and hitting a problem in the part that's different.

I want to focus in on the curve (someone else's requirement, so I will be doing it in some way) but also show both uncorrected and corrected curves.

For both Independent Data and Dependent Data, I removed the Minimum Value and Maximum Value and set rounding to 10.

This works fine for me for a curve that doesn't need a rock correction.

But when I overlay a graph with the corrected curve it uses the uncorrected data to set the window. That sounds like exactly what it should do, so I should be the one to change. However, I haven't been able to get an expression Min or Max Value for Ind or Dep Data that both graphs use to get the same value.

Suggestions? Paths to look down I didn't think of?
