Fence Diagram Site Map: How do I change data marker colours in my site map on fence diagram?

I have recent BH data and Historic data and I would like to represent the Point ID with different colours e.g. red for recent green for historic.

I am able to do this in the Site Maps under SM report properties>Data Rep>Data Marker Color Exp (output below and expression used)

However, how do I represent this on my fence site map?  I have also noticed there is no option for this in the site map tab too.

  • Very true. I fought with it several years ago trying to do the same thing and had to settle for the different data markers.

  • This absolutely CAN be done.  I can think of a few ways to do it but here is an example of a relatively straight forward way.

Below is a screen shot of a map on a fence showing different colored data markers on the same map.

Note that boring alpha-1 is colored red, boring alpha-2 is colored blue and the other two borings are colored black. Simply put, this is done by creating colored data markers in your library.  I did this by copying the  datamarker 1 page to a new page named "1R" and "1B". I then set the solid fill on the main tab to none and set the background fill to the desired color.  See below for main and background settings for the data marker.

The map in fence entity is set to override the default datamarker if certain conditions are met similar to how you are currently referencing different symbols for historic and current borings.  In this example I simply used the pointid field and compared it to an absolute value but you could compare to a date field or to a specific field that indicates historic or new boring. The override expression i used for this example is shown below.

It basically returns the datamarker name "1R" or "1B" for certain specific borings.  When this data marker is plotted on the site map it retains its colored fill unless you override it. You could also probably use the data marker fill override of the datamarker entity rather than the background fill but I didn't try that. You could also probably color the outline a different color than black.  Many different options, just create the data marker and color that you want.

I hope this helps. If I am missing something please feel free to point it out. There are several other approaches that could be used.
