gINT Professional

Hi, I was wondering if it possible to create your own template on gINT. My company got gINT for our IDOT jobs and use their library. So I am wondering if we could create our own template and/or edit IDOT's template to fit our needs. All I really need to do is edit the report  design which I can do to a certain extent, but I cannot edit the IDOT logo at the top of the report and also everything colored red is locked and I cannot edit at all.

  • If you are going to base your own logs off of the IDOT logs, I would recomend making a copy of the entire library and then renaming it. You can open this library in gINT and edit to your hearts content without fear of screwing up the original library. Here's why:

As noted by William Ladd, some of the log entities may be contained in blocks or drawing libraries. While blocks make building and maintaining multiple versions of logs easier, you need to realize that editing an item in a block effects every log that the block is used in. Sometimes this is a good thing, many times it is not. Note that you can explode a block that is in a specific log. This breaks the connection to the block and everything that was in the block is now individual entities within the current log that can be edited without fear of impacting something else This is why William recomended copying and renaming any referenced blocks or drawings contained in the log.

Also note that gINT has many example libraries/ data structures that may better match your needs, or may serve as a better starting point for your own logs. Also, there is nothing wrong with starting from scratch and building your own library and/or data structure.  Just a steep learning curve.
