Data Design - Readings Data Save Location - Project File or Library?

Where is the Readings List(s) and their data stored. For example, a Readings list for sieves? Are they in the library, or are they in the project, or gdt file itself.

Thanks

  • Hi Art,

The items under DataDesign. Reading Lists are stored in the library.

In Field Properties the Default list Name is stored in the Database (.gdt,.gpj) that is picked from the library you have open.

So for example you open a database with a library called library A . Goto the sieve reading table and set the default list from whatever reading lists you have in Library A. That reading list Name is now in the Database (.Gpj, .Gdt) .

If you then open that project with another library and it doesn't have a reading list with the same Name nothing will populate, but you can change it in the project by reopening the Field properties with the new library.

    Hope that helps.

So if you have Library A and Library B and on some projects you use A and others use B, if you want to have the same list data ( eg set of sieves) you need to have that same list in each library, right. [and I guess we best name the lists the same thing]. The name of the default list to pick from the library is in the project , the name and also the data are in the library(s).

  • Hi Art,

Yes if you want consistency that would be correct. The name would only affect a situation where you open the same project  with two different libraries, but would make sense to keep lists that contain the same info the same name
