Line floating in margin

Hi, There is this line floating in the margin of my PDF but I don't see it in the report design. How to get rid of it?

Thanks

  • Hard to say since you did not include the entire report design screen. My guess is that it is in a block that has an x offset applied. Or it might be a single entity with an x offset applied. You will find these either to the right or left of the actual report area. All else fails,  make a copy of the report page with a different name, then start deleting blocks or entities until the line disappears. Yes, it is a tedious and repetative process that may require you to make several copies of the original page to narrow it down. It may be hiding beneath another entity or obscured by the block labels. Again, if I was to guess, it looks as if it might be the underline from a text entity that has no text and no associated data but this is purely speculation. Good luck.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply. Are you suggesting I delete one block at a time and output a PDF over and over? But wouldn't the extra line appear in the top margin of the report design close to where it shows up in the PDF?

  • Yes, sometimes deleting entities and blocks one at a time and then printing a copy is the only way to identify the source location of malfunctioning code. MAKE SURE YOU MAJE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL REPORT PAGE BEFORE DOING THUS.

Entities and blocks (groups of entities) can have offset properties. This allows them to be physically located anywhere in the report, even outside the boundaries of the report, yet plot within the report at different locations based on programmed conditions. You didnt zoom out far enough in the screen shot above but your second page header appears to be set up this way. It is physically located out side the report but only plots within the report when the page number is greater than 1. There are likely other blocks and entities that are set up this way as well based in what I do see in your screen capture. If this is a "smart log" (a log that changes and shifts columns and headers based on the data) or was modified from a smart log, there may be many such entities and blocks.
