Data marker within text

Hi,

has anybody ever managed to remove the spaces that are automatically created around a data marker when it's inserted in the middle of a text in a report?

Thank you

  • it is somewhat controllable by how big your drawings is within the square in symbol design.  On a related issue, I would like the <<G> to work with <<DMK!>>

Get the most out of gINT with Datgel Tools.

  • Thanks Phil

Yes, I saw that unfortunately, and impossible to resize that square...

What do you mean by "I would like the <<G> to work with <<DMK!>>" please?

  • As Phil Wade says the amount of space is dependent on the design of the symbol relative to the symbol box in the symbol design window. If the symbol is much smaller than the box, there will be lots of space around it. If the symbol is exactly the same size as the box, gINT still inserts a small amount of space between the symbols (as if they were text characters).  However there is nothing that says the symbol has to be within the symbol box.  For example, the expression:

    <<POINT.PointID>><<DMK!11>><<DMK!11>>HHHH<<DMK!XI UC>><<DMK!XI UC>>HHH

    Gives the following output

Note that datamarker 11 is a rectangle exactly on the symbol bounding box edges. Note the small spaces between the edges of the 2 boxes and the boxes and the surrounding text. However, Datamarker XI UC is drawn outside the symbol box extents and plots so there is no space between the two symbols and reduced space between the symbol and the adjacent text.

As you state there is no way to change the size or shape of the datamarker box (the dmk function places a square with size equal to the font height and then draws the symbol to relative to the square) but you can change the size of the symbol relative to the box...think outside the box!

Don't know exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but with creative symbol design you may be able to get your desired result.
