JMcConnell asked: Is there a way to enter a Greek Sigma character in input? Rather than output "Cu" on the printed logs, the engineers would like to see the sigma symbol. It will be output at the corresponding sample depth (alongside shear strength, water content, etc.).
ANSWER: In Report Design, you can use a Text (or Text vs. Depth) entity, and assign a font that includes the Sigma character. The Text Expression will be whatever keyboard character produces Sigma in that font. For example, in the Symbol font, upper-case Sigma is a capital S.You can also use the Sigma character as a Data Marker by selecting the data marker SIGMA UC or SIGMA LC (upper and lower case, respectively). For a Plot vs. Depth column on a Log report, this would be set in the Data Representation tab of the column properties dialog, and the Sigma character would be used to mark the Cu value at the corresponding depth. Finally, you can copy the Sigma Data Marker graphic to create a new Discrete Graphic, and use it in a Discrete Graphic (or Discrete Graphic vs. Depth) entity.
None of the above options will appear in the INPUT table, but at time of output, the Sigma character will appear where the report design specifies, based on the data merged from the project database.
