Posting Text at Depth on a Fence Report

Keith13hk asked: I am preparing a cross section using gINT with fence output, and have added a data field called "Grade". How can I display this data as "text vs depth" on a fence report?

ANSWER: You can display on a fence report anything that you can output on a log report. To display a text-vs.-depth column to the right of each fencepost/boring that has data in the "Grade" field, you will want to consider at least four properties of the Text-vs-Depth entity, in addition to the Depth expression:

WHAT is output: The Text Expression property in the Main tab can be as simple as a data location in your gINT project database. Let's say the Grade field is in the POINT (Borehole) table, so there is one grade datum per borehole. The Text Expression would be the Data Location:

     <<POINT.Grade>>

WHETHER it is output: The Output Condition expression in the Configuration tab lets you add decision-making to the text output. You can:

  • Display only if there is Grade data:
    <<HasData(<<POINT.Grade>>)>>
  • -Display only when the Grade data is greater than 5:
    <<POINT.Grade>> > 5

WHERE it is output: The offset of the X Value entered in the Main tab from the Fence column centerline determines this. If your Fence column centerline is at 5.15 (inches) and you want Grade data displayed 2 tenths of an inch to the right, you would enter an X value of 5.35. The actual X coordinate for each boring centerline will be determined by its relative position along the fence baseline, and the Grade data will be output 2 tenths of an inch further to the right than that centerline.

HOW MUCH SPACE the output takes up: The Column Width expression in the Wrap tab determines the width allowed for the text. This is often a simple number value.
