Printer Driver Error gINT Version 8.30.02.39 and Windows 7 64Bit

Hello,

I get the follow error whenever I open gINT if my default printer is not set to either the PDFcreator or Adobe PDF printer:

FATAL ERROR
Could not load default Windows printer

gINT immediately closes after pressing OK to this error.

I am running Windows 7 64bit with gINT version 8.30.02.39 installed.

I have also followed the steps outlined here: http://www.datgel.com/pdfs/HowTos/Installing_gINT_8.2_on_Windows_7_03.pdf

To reproduce the error:

  1. Click the windows button and go to "Devices and Printers".
  2. Make a network printer the default printer.
  3. Open gINT and go to output > logs.
  4. Select File > Print.
  5. Select Printer and choose a network printer (I don't have access to local printers).
(This is required as sometimes the default printer in gINT is still set to last one used.)
  6. Click OK and then OK again.
  7. The log successfully prints (the program crash will occur next time gINT is opened).
  8. Close gINT (File > Close).
  9. Reopen gINT.
  10. gINT will often crash with the fatal error described after selecting input instantly.
If it doesn't crash instantly, it will eventually after switching between input and output.

Temporary solution - Set the default printer to either PDFcreator or Adobe PDF printer.

  • Calan, this problem has been reported on occasion, but doesn't seem to be triggered within gINT. This may occur on only one machine in an organization, or will occur until the printing environment is changed.

Here are some suggestions that have resolved the issue or at least have been acceptable workarounds:

    • Remove and reinstall the printer driver -- make sure the printer driver is installed locally
    • Use a different windows printer driver as default
    • Check permissions for printer driver and gINT executable files
    • Reboot the computer
    • Reinstall gINT with a later update (your version is the latest release, so this will likely not help you)
    • Remove and reinstall gINT with the current release
    • Set the default printer to Adobe or other PDF print driver (not the gINT PDF driver)
