Is there currently a feature to calculate projected borehole distances along a fence line and to display it on your fence upon output?
Has anyone else tried it? I know it should be doable but I haven't seen it yet, and I wanted to check with you all before I attempt to do it.
Thanks
Looks like I found the answer: <<abs(<<RoundTo(<<int(<<FenceOffset>>)>>,1)>>)>>
Basically use the FenceOffset?
No.
The FenceOffset system field returns the offset of each borehole from the fence baseline. This is the "distance" from the borehole perpendicular to the baseline.
The FenceOffsetEast system field returns the distance of the borehole east of the intersection of the baseline to the line running through the borehole and perpendicular to the baseline.
The FenceOffsetNorth system field returns distance of the borehole north of the intersection of the baseline to the line running through the borehole and perpendicular to the baseline.
Ok, thanks Dave, it's more clear now.
Sorry, I should have clarified that.
Are you trying to get the distance each borehole is "offset" from the baseline?
If so, then yes, the FenceOffset Data Item will give that to you.
When I first read your question, I thought that you were wanting to get the distance "along" the baseline that each borehole is projected back to. In other words, unless you have a baseline that goes through each of the boreholes there is a distance that each borehole is offset from the baseline. Imagine a line that is drawn perpendicular to the baseline between the baseline and each borehole. If the baseline goes through the location of a borehole then the offset is zero (0). For all the other boreholes these perpendicular lines intersect the baseline at specific points. Are you looking for the distances between each of these specific points along the baseline?
Yes, the distance each borehole is "offset" from the baseline, so I will use the FenceOffset Item.
I won't need the distances along the baseline between the projected points at this time, but it may be useful in the future.
Dave, Thanks again for your comments. Do you know if anyone has plotted fence line intersections in gINT on their fence diagrams?
I added my fence lines as alignments and thought I might be able to plot the fence intersections on the fence report also.
Thanks, Matt
Not that I am aware of.
From what I have seen, Alignments are like Entities in that they don't know anything about each other.
But, having a way to show crossing Alignments would be useful.
Sounds like a feature to request for a future release.
Back to your original question:
The FenceBLDistance Data Item will the distance along the baseline for each borehole.
If you have a v8i copy of gINT you can access this Data Item.
Correction, it looks like that Data Item pre-dates v8i releases. It has been available for some time now.
