AGS4 Export problems

Hi Guys

We're trying to export AGS4 files out of our database using a modified .gcx file (from the Bentley Supplied file installed with the program).

It doesn't appear to be generating correct files - specifically around AGS4 Rule 3.  None of the row data descriptors are coming through in the ags file.

Rule 3
Each row in the data file must start with a DATA DESCRIPTOR that defines the contents of that row. The
following Data Descriptors are used as described below:
• Each GROUP row shall be preceded by the “GROUP” Data Descriptor.
• Each HEADING row shall be preceded by the “HEADING” Data Descriptor.
• Each UNIT row shall be preceded by the “UNIT” Data Descriptor.
• Each TYPE row shall be preceded by the “TYPE” Data Descriptor.
• Each DATA row shall be preceded by the “DATA” Data Descriptor.

Also - when we run the AGS checker, it assumed the file is in AGS3 format and throws lots of incorrect errors (for AGS4).
The files are produced using Export to AGS file on gINT v.8.30.03.110

  • Good afternoon
I have exactly the same problem. Has it been solved?
    Thanks

    Jerome

  • I guess you didn't populate the AGS Edition Number

    see: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\gINT V8i\docs\gint_V8i_and_AGS4.pdf"
pdf page 14, printed page 13

    Exporting AGS Data
To export your data to an AGS file, you must first fill in at least the required (yellow
background) fields in the FILE TRANSMISSION (TRAN) table.

What is most important is the AGS Edition Number. You must select the
correspondence file which matches the version specified. If you specify the edition as
“4” or “4.0” (or any number that starts with “4”), you must use the GINT STD 4 TO
AGS 4.GCX as the correspondence file if you are using the files provided with gINT. If
you specify “3” for the edition then GINT STD 4 TO AGS 3_1.GCX is required.
The “Process” field is not an AGS field. The two choices are “Export” and “Import.
During export, gINT selects the "Export" record with the most recent date for the
relevant information. "Import" records are automatically populated using the import
correspondence files provided with the AGS4 files.

  • Thank you Phil!
Actually I just figured out that my project doesn't have the relevant tabs such as DICT or TRAN. And if I convert my project to the DataTemplate provided earlier in this forum (and specific to AGS4), I lose a lot of data and it doesn't work better. So I wonder how worth it is to create these tables in my original project...
Would you have some advise for this?

  • Hi Jerome
It is the "hard road" retrofitting AGS support on an existing gdt/glb. Better adopt a gdt/glb that supports AGS4 and AGS 3.1, then convert your reports over, and write a gci to import data from your old gpj to the new one. The only realistic options to consider for your new gint system are:
    1. The free "gint std ags 4_0" which has about 20 reports and moderate functionality
    2. The DGD Tool Pro (www.datgel.com/Datgel-DGD-Tool.aspx) which has extensive functionality and >300 reports, including offshore example reports. (at a moderate cost)
    cheers
