Representing Subsurface data in 3D

Hi,

It is possible to connect a HoleBASE database to AutoCAD Civil 3D and show a 3D representation of borehole data in 3D as well as an (best guess and often wrong but cleanable) interpolated surface.

We don't have Civil 3D but we do have access to a Holebase database (we don't have gINT).  Is there any way of connecting this up to bring the info into a DGN environment?

Failing that is it possible to use the AGS data somehow?  Considering it includes location specific info. as well as the composition data surely there must be a way to bring this information into a 3D space.

Any thoughts?

  • Hi Kathleen,

Thanks for the reply. To be clear, Im not asking for helkp with AutoCAD Civil 3D...we dont have it. We use predominantly Bentley products for our BIM environment and want to bring through information from HoleBASE into a DGN environment.

At my old company we once pulled the info into Civil3D, exported it as LandXML and imported the LandXML into Microstation. That was enough for us to roughly demonstrate the SubSurface conditions.

We are now looking to develop a BIM process which uses HoleBASE or AGS data in a DGN environment in order to facilitate Piling Design.

Does anyone have any experience in enabling this information exchange or is it only possible through gINT?
