I haven't seen any notifications at that link and the most recent post on that forum is over 2 years old. But it looks like it was added to the Launcher without announcement.

I didn't notice it, since the icon changed colors - David Trejo-Rodriguez is there any significance to the color change related to functionality?
Also the information at the release notes link is out of date.
