Sample Type (MC or SPT)

HI,

I'm trying to trouble shoot this error but not having any luck.  Here is the issue:

I had this correct on another project but could have saved over inadvertently when working late.  I've tried debugging and playing with the strips and even playing with input to the data entry.

I didn't really change any of the expressions out of the box since we are only using either a Mod Cal or SPT.  Is there an easier way to debug?  I may be already there but spending a lot of time troubleshooting.  I would be grateful for any assistance from other experienced users in how you'd navigate through this.

Thanks!

Brad

  • Hi Brad,

There are 2 things I think you'll need to adjust to get that working properly...

    1. The graphic for the SPT type comes from the Test Type header in the SPT group. Unfortunately, it looks like the Test Type header is not included in the standard "US - SPT" grid in the "SPTs, Coring & Other Samples" Data Entry step. You could add it and/or you could open the SPT group in Professional and enter "MC" as the Test Type there. That will make it so the log uses the correct "Box Half Black Fill Right" symbol.

    2. The "Strip - Sampling Activity Type and Sample Number - US" strip is set up to show graphics for some of the records in the Sample Information group (Lab Sample Information step in Data Entry).

"Strip - Sampling Activity Type and Sample Number - US" uses a Filter Group to filter out certain Sample Types from the Sample Information group. Currently, it is not set up to filter out the "MC" types so you are getting the overlapping graphics.

To fix your issue, I think you would need to add a Filter similar to those below for "MC" types. This will filter out records in the Sample Information group with the Type "MC" so a graphic doesn't show for them.

(The idea is that you are already showing the graphic coming from the SPT group, you wouldn't also want to show graphics for the SPT/MC "sub-samples" in the Sample Information group - as you're experiencing. But, there might be other samples from the Sample Information group that you do want to show a graphic for. For example, you may want to show graphics for "Bulk" samples. So, you need to set up Filter Groups accordingly to either filter out certain sample Types or only show certain sample Types.)

Hope that helps some - please let me know if anything is still unclear.

  • Thanks, Jesse, I was able to complete Step 1 by adding MC to the SPT group (Type) field but I could not add it to the header for the US - SPT.  Maybe it's because it's a default?  I tried to create a US - SPT1 with the fields but now wondering how to intergrate?

Now for step 2, I was able to work the filters correctly to work for MC as shown below.  If I have a bulk sample (its just from the cuttings so not related to SPT), does it have it's own symbol and graphic associated with it?

The "B" was the pick list under "Type" for the Sample Information group.  Does this need to be filtered as you suggested in Step 2?

  • Hi Brad,

For Step 1, you should just be able to go to System>Configuration Packs>Select your config pack>Manage Grids. Then select the "US - SPT" grid, click Edit, and add "Test Type" to the Columns Allocated list.

For Step 2, you would only need to add "B" to the Filter Group if you do not want a graphic to appear on the log for your B (Bulk) samples. If you do want the graphic to appear, you should remove that Filter.

Note that looking at your screenshots above, it looks like your graphics for SPT's have been changed to use the "Box Diagonal Black Fill Bottom Left" symbol. The default symbol for B samples is also "Box Diagonal Black Fill Bottom Left", so your SPT's will have the same graphics as B's (assuming the B graphic hasn't been changed judging from your screenshot).

You can change the symbol for B's under System>Configuration Packs>Manage Picklists>"SampleInformation - Type" picklist. You can select a different symbol for both the Point & Connector Symbol.

Note that the graphic for the Sample Information group are placed on the log slightly differently than the SPT symbol...

The SPT's use an expression in a "Range Symbol" object to determine the graphic. (This is so it will default to a graphic because many people will leave the SPT.Test Type blank.)

The Sample Information graphics use a "Picklist Range Symbol" object that references the Sample Information.Type picklist field directly, which just pulls in whatever graphic is specified in the Picklist for that Sample Type.
