Warning message preventing access to Layer Manager contact Administrator in Civil 3D Extension

    Issue Summary

When trying to access the Layer Manager there will be a warning message preventing access if the user logged in is not an Administrator. The message will confirm you require the relevant security role and to contact your System Administrator if you require access.

The Layer Manager is an administrative tool for defining the structure of the Geotechnical Layer names, it also controls the ability to split strata, objects and entities over multiple layers and finally define terminology used for these objects or elements. Depending on the structure of the project being worked on the layer naming convention may only need to be defined once and then never be adjusted again or if they are changed it may require approval first.

    Resolution

Having the Layer Manager tied to a security role allows control over who can set the Layer naming conventions. Access can be provided by any OpenGround user who has system admin rights.

To get access to the Layer Manager the user providing access must first log into their OpenGround account, navigate to System then groups.

From here the group the user is associated with needs to be selected followed by pressing Assign Roles.

The role "Manage Geotechnical Layers" needs to be selected and brought across to the allocated roles section by pressing the relevant arrow key.

Once the role is assigned and saved the user will have the rights to access the Layer Manager.

Please be aware that in the above example a custom group was created to illustrate the role being added. If the role is applied to an existing group where many users are assigned to, all of the users in this group will have access if the role is added. Please see the User Accounts section of the OpenGround user guide for further assistance on creating, editing and managing user groups and accounts. This can be found here.
