How Should Trigger Sets be Setup for Contamination Data in Open Ground Cloud Professional?

    Question

How Should Trigger Sets be Setup for Contamination Data?

    Answer

Environmental chemical testing is perhaps one of the more common areas where the inline highlighting provided by Triggers Sets can prove helpful:

    Explanation

Trigger Sets can be setup via the named button either within a Configuration Pack (no project open) or for a specific project (from the Configuation ribbon with a project open). The Determinand is commonly relied upon to distinguish between the types of test in these circumstances, particular when working with AGS3.1, but this isn't actually correct. In addition to the Determinand each result could (should!) have a Test Type defined, this providing the extra level of distinction you require. The idea is you can then use either the Test Type or the Laboratory Test Matrix (under AGS4) as a secondary filter when defining your filters.

When defining your filters notice that the final drop down refers to 'Trigger Unit'. Set this to 'Result Unit' to assign different triggers on this basis. This might be particularly applicable for discerning water and solid samples but also when the labs are inconsistent in their reporting for units (although obviously it would be better if this were not the case; perhaps consider being prescriptive with your labs in this area?).

The example above illustrates how trigger sets can be setup to differentiate on the data. In reality, different styles might be associated a range of values for each combination:

Also note that if you setup several trigger values for a single combination you can highlight these and click 'Copy', making a few tweaks to the Trigger criteria. This is likely to be particularly helpful under these circumstances.

Please note - following on from the logic of AGS4 chemical test result which contain text (as is typically the case for results which fall on the limit of detection) are are put in the Reported Result column. Whole number results are put in the Result Value column. Triggers clearly only apply to numeric columns, so this is something to be aware of. Note that we have a Report View available which will report out the two columns as one should this be helpful to you.
