Text macros enable you to quickly insert long, often-used strings of text by pressing the F4 function key and typing in an abbreviation. These are especially useful in lithology descriptions. For example, you could use PGS for ‘poorly graded SAND’ and FCSG for ‘fine to coarse sandstone gravel’.

Create Text Macros for Often-Used Text Strings

Do the following exercise to demonstrate this capability:
    1. Go to INPUT and open a project.

    2. Go to the Borehole/Point tab.

    3. Add a new borehole

    4. Go to the Lithology tab.

    5. Enter a Depth.  In the Description, type 'Poorly graded SAND' (without the quotation marks).
    6. Enter a second Depth.  In the Description, type 'fine to coarse sandstone gravel' (without the quotation marks).

    7. Double-click in the Description for the first row, then highlight the words ‘Poorly graded SAND’.

    8. Select Tools->Write Text Macro. You see the NEW MACRO NAME dialog box:

    9. Enter ‘PGS’ and click OK.

    10. Click in another cell to close the Description pop-up box.

    11. Double-click in the Description in the second record. Highlight ‘fine to coarse sandstone gravel’.

    12. Select Tools->Write Text Macro. Enter ‘FCSG’ and click OK.

    13. Click in another cell to close the popup.

    14. Double-click in the third Description cell.

    15. Press F4, type ‘PGS’, press Enter, type a comma then a space, press F4, type ‘FCSG’, press Enter.

    16. The result is ‘Poorly graded SAND, fine to coarse sandstone gravel’

    17. Close the popup window and delete the new row with your text expression.
    18. Go to the Borehole/Point tab.

    19. Delete the new borehole.
